The Basics of C-Arm Equipment

The c-arm is a medical imaging device whose history goes back to the 1950s. It uses a particularly sophisticated form of x-ray technology which allows medical professionals to observe internal organs, bone structure, blood flow, or other biological features without the need for invasive techniques. The technology has improved dramatically over the years, but the basic concept has remained the same.

The name refers to the “C”-shaped arm which connects the x-ray generator and the x-ray detector which works in conjunction with the image intensifier. This design allows you to view almost any part of the patient’s body from any angle, quickly and easily. The addition of a digital flat-panel detector in the early 2000s eliminated the distortion and blurring which sometimes occurred around the periphery of images.

C-Arm Equipment is easy to adjust and reposition. The results are displayed on a monitor for immediate reference or adjustment. The use of c-arm equipment allows for more accurate, efficient treatment, which in turn leads to faster, more complete patient recovery. Facilities using c-arm equipment have experienced significant savings from reduced errors or follow-up procedures, happier patients, and more efficient practices.

The real-time fluoroscopic images provided by quality c-arm equipment have become an essential part of modern medical services. The mobility and flexibility allowed by the c-arm design and the resolution of the results allow physicians the most accurate and targeted information possible during orthopedic procedures, cardiological assessments, angiographic analysis, emergency treatment, and surgical procedures. Just as c-arm equipment has a wide range of uses in medical care, there are a variety of manufacturers and machines from which to choose. That’s where MedScan comes in.
