Contact Lens Evaluation

For many people, contact lenses provide greater convenience and more satisfying vision correction than glasses. At Eyes on Camp Bowie, here is what to expect in a typical contact lens exam and evaluation. Before being fit with contact lenses, a comprehensive eye exam is performed. During this exam, our doctor will determine your prescription for corrective lenses and also examine the eyes for any health problems that could prevent successful and healthy contact lens wear. If there are no contraindications to contact lens wear, the evaluation for contact lenses will follow.

As part of the contact lens evaluation, a device called a corneal topographer takes a map of the corneal surface and a calculation is made to help determine the best contact lens suited to match the curvature of your eye. In addition, the doctor will take into account the interaction of your eyelids and tear composition with the contact lens.

There are many things to consider when deciding on the modality of contact lens wear based on your lifestyle. There are a variety of contact lenses to choose from including those that enhance or change your eye color, soft contacts lenses that correct myopia and hyperopia, as well as, hard contact lenses that correct for astigmatism.

If you are over the age of 40 and need bifocals, your doctor will discuss your options for correction including multifocal contact lenses or a monovision fit.
