If your child is struggling to see objects far away without squinting and straining, then they might have nearsightedness or myopia. This condition is common among children and can be treated successfully with a number of treatments. Fortunately, we can treat and correct nearsightedness with vision therapy and vision correction devices including contact lenses and eyeglasses.
What are the Best Treatments for Myopia?
We use myopia control as a way to treat nearsightedness here at Advanced Eye Care Associates in Providence, RI. Myopia control includes overnight vision correction using specialized contact lenses also known as ortho-K. We also use multifocal and bifocal lenses for some patients to help with myopia control.
Do I Need to Get My Child’s Eyes Examined for Myopia?
We do offer a comprehensive eye exam for children at our optometry clinic. With this pediatric eye exam, we are able to detect myopia and other conditions, such as atropine where the eyes are not looking in the same direction. Once we complete an eye exam, we will be able to provide your child with a personalized treatment program to correct their vision issues. We recommend that all children over six months of age should get an annual comprehensive eye exam to detect any early signs of myopia.
