TMJ/Temporomandibular disorder (TMD)
Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) commonly referred to by patients as “TMJ” is an umbrella term covering pain and dysfunction of the muscles of mastication (the muscles that move the jaw) and the temporomandibular joints (the joints which connect the mandible to the skull).
Our doctors will evaluate the jaws, muscles and joints during the exam and prescribe treatment based on findings. Some of the more common treatments may include palliative treatment, an occlusal orthotic device, or referral to an oral surgeon for evaluation for muscle relaxers or Botox injections. Less often surgical intervention is necessary.
