Optomap

Facilities and Equipment

We are excited to introduce a new member to our diagnostic equipment family - optos®!

We all know eye exams generally include a look at the front of the eye to evaluate health and changes in prescription, but what about the interior of the eye such as the retina? A thorough screening of the retina is critical and can lead to early detection of common problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes and detachments, melanomas, cancer and diabetic retinopathy.

The optos® is a fantastic tool that we have added to our equipment to better serve our patients. What makes it so extraordinary? Prior to optos®, retinal screenings gave eye care professionals a mere 30° view of the back of the eye. Today, the optomap® (digital image of the retina) provides you and your optometrist a view of “up to 200 internal degrees of the retina at one time”. This can generally be done quickly and easily without the hassle of dilation.

In our office, the fee for this optional test is very low at just $10 compared to most offices charging $40. This test is not covered by insurance.

In general, we utilize all the instruments needed for a complete exam, which include:

  • Visual field instruments to check peripheral vision
  • An electronic instrument to check eye pressure
  • Two auto-refractors to help with prescriptions
  • Color and depth perception tests
