Contact Lens Exams

Whether you are considering wearing contact lenses for the first time, or if you are looking to improve your current lenses, we specialize in maximizing your comfort and vision.

We fit contact lenses for every type of person and lifestyle. We prescribe contacts for patients with astigmatism, bifocals, and dry eyes. We also design contact lenses to decrease myopia and astigmatism non-surgically.

Because many people are too busy to care for their contacts, we fit many patients with disposable lenses. We recommend disposables not only for their convenience, but also because they are healthy for your eyes.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the best contact lens for me?

The doctor will determine which lens design is best for you. This decision is based on several factors including: your prescription, the curvature of your eye, how dry your eyes are, your visual demands at work and play, and your lifestyle.

Will I be able to see as well as I do with my glasses?

Yes, and in most cases, you may see better with contacts than glasses. Our patients enjoy increased peripheral vision and crisper vision. Patients often tell us that they see more accurately with contact lenses because the lenses act as if they are part of your natural eyes.

If I couldn't wear contacts before, can I wear them now?

Very few patients are unable to wear contact lenses because there are so many different types of lenses. Technology has continually improved the quality of lenses, so patients with astigmatism and bifocals can now wear contacts.

Are Contact Lenses healthy for my eyes?

Yes, Contact lenses are healthy to wear, and require very little maintenance, especially daily disposable contact lenses. Daily disposable contact lenses are the ultimate in health and convenience. There is no need to clean them: just throw them away after each use. They are also ideal for traveling because you don't need to bring contact lens solutions or cases, and you always have spare pairs.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a relatively new diagnostic modality that provides high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of ocular tissues. It is predominantly used for posterior segment imaging to measure retinal and macula thickness and has been used to study and monitor diseases such as vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membranes, macular holes and macular edema in diabetes, vein occlusions and uveitis.

Do colored contact lenses look natural?

Yes, new contact lens designs look extremely natural and beautiful, even when someone is gazing directly into your eyes. Many actresses and models wear colored contact lenses, and you can't even tell!

Why are hard or gas permeable (GP) contact lenses better for some patients?

Patients with very dry eyes, high amounts of astigmatism can benefit from wearing GP contacts. GPs can also act as retainers to keep a patient from becoming too nearsighted.

At what age can my child start wearing contacts?

A child can begin wearing contact lenses at any age; however, a child is ready to wear lenses when the parents decide that their child is responsible enough to personally care for the lenses.

Is it safe to wear contacts while playing sports? While swimming?

It is safe to wear contacts for all sports. In fact, contact lens wear can enhance your athletic performance because you will see more clearly, your depth perception will be more accurate, and the contact lenses don't fog up, or slide down your nose like glasses will. We highly recommend daily disposable lenses for hygiene and safety reasons while swimming.

If I have astigmatism, will I be able to see well with contacts?

Yes, and some patients even see better with contacts than their glasses. Gas permeable contact lenses can even decrease your astigmatism by "smoothing" out the cornea, or front surface of your eye.

Now we even have disposable contact lenses for astigmatism.

If I wear bifocal glasses, will I be able to read through my contacts?

There are several options for bifocal wearers: new disposable progressive lenses, monovision, or wearing reading glasses over your contacts. Our patients who successfully wear multifocal contact lenses have told us that it is "liberating" to wear contact lenses, and not need to keep looking for their reading glasses
