Eye Exam Technology

Optomap - Don’t want to be light sensitive after your exam?

Try our Optomap!
Getting an Optomap image is fast, painless and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye at any time, and it’s suitable for the whole family. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken. Images are available immediately for review and you can even see your own retina. You see exactly what your doctor sees - even in a 3D animation! The unique optomap ultra-widefield view helps your doctor detect early signs of retinal disease more effectively and efficiently than with traditional eye exams.

Auto Phoropter

This device allows the doctor to perform refractions (to determine your necessary eye corrections) digitally, which makes your visit just that much faster and more accurate.

Tonometer

This allows us to determine your eye pressure without using the conventional puff of air or eyedrops, and also provides for a very quick reading of your intraocular pressure.

Dry Eye

Dry eye is a condition that occurs when a person's eyes have insufficient tears or poorly made tears to properly lubricate the eyes and the eyelid. Without the natural lubrication and cleansing of tears, a sufferer may experience a feeling of grit or debris in the eyes, blurred vision, tired eyes and sensitivity to light. Their eyes may appear reddened and inflamed. In extreme cases of the condition, chronic dry eye can result in increased eye infections and scarring of the cornea.

Premium and Designer Frames

Eyeglasses are removable lenses used to correct vision impairments such as refractive errors like myopia and hyperopia, and are available only by prescription from an optometrist. Eyeglasses are not only a solution for vision impairments, but also fashionable accessories for people of all ages. In most cases, vision patients select a frame – usually made of metal or plastic, and then one of our opticians will help to protect your eyes by offering Anti-Reflective/Anti-Glare treatments, Transitions and other ways to make you feel more comfortable while wearing your glasses.

In addition to our vast selection of frames, we offer the latest in lens technology to ensure optimum prescription performance, and we stand behind these products with complimentary warranties and eyewear maintenance. Because you and your prescription are unique, our experienced opticians will guide you to the best frame and lens options for you, your lifestyle and your budget.

Eye Exams

The Modern Optometry team take even routine eye exams very seriously. During a yearly or bi-yearly examination, our patients will receive a patient history review, a series of vision and eye tests, assessments of eye focusing and movement, and an eye health evaluation. Our optometrists will discuss any additional testing that may be required to diagnose an eye disease or condition. Preventative and routine eye exams are important to maintaining good eye health. Often, eye and vision problems do not have obvious symptoms or signs, but are easily diagnosed by a licensed optometrist. By diagnosing eye and vision conditions early on, our optometrist is able provide treatment options and in many cases restore or prevent vision loss. The American Optometric Association recommends yearly or bi-yearly eye and vision exams, depending on whether you are at-risk or not.

Children’s Eye Exams

Did you know that approximately 80% of everything learned by a child, whether in a school setting or not, is learned visually? Information like this is why it’s so important to have your child examined to be sure he/she is learning at full capacity.

According to the AOA (American Optometric Association), children should begin getting their eyes examined at 6 months old. A follow up exam at no older than 3 will allow our doctor to prescribe corrective lenses so that your child can experience the world clearly. Another exam before starting school will also benefit your child by having further corrections applied, if necessary. Children with corrective lenses should be seen annually, and those children that did not require any correction should then be seen every 2 years up until they turn 18 years old.

Contacts and Your Teenager

With contacts, there is no age requirement or age limit, but your best bet is for your child to begin wearing contacts at age 10 or older.

The biggest issue we’ve noticed with wearing contacts is not physical age, but maturity. Contacts are a big responsibility, and it’s important that great care be taken for contacts to most effective.

At Modern Optometry, we know that your child may be active and enjoy playing sports. This is where contacts can really make a difference in their activity enjoyment/success. They may also be self-conscious about how they look in their glasses, so contact lenses allow them to feel more confident about themselves.
