Alternatives To Glasses

Contact Lenses

As you know, contact lenses have come a long way in the last few years. We now have lenses that correct astigmatism, multi focal lenses for correcting both close up and distance vision as well as lenses you sleep in and take out in the morning and see all day with no contacts or glasses!! With the new lenses, customized fitting has become very important to assure you are fit properly. We will create a topographical map of your eyes to measure the shape of the front surface of your eye. This along with other testing gives the doctor a solid starting point for a contact lens that is right for you. We will work with you until your are completely satified with your vision and the comfort of your new lenses.

Gas Permeable Contacts

Gas Permeable contacts are made of a firm, durable plastic that transmits oxygen. They offer excellent eye health: because they don’t contain water like soft lenses do, they resist deposits and are less likely than soft contacts to harbor bacteria.

Gas Permeable contact lenses clean and disinfect easily, don’t dehydrate, are easier to handle, last longer than soft lenses, and quite often provide crisper vision.

Hybrid Contacts

A hybrid contact lens is a specialized contact lens that may be an option for you if you are uncomfortable wearing rigid gas-permeable contact lenses. Hybrid contact lenses give the visual acuity of a rigid gas permeable lens with the comfort of a soft contact lens. A hybrid contact lens is comprised of a center rigid gas permeable contact lens with an outer skirt made of a soft lens material.

Surgical Alternatives

LASIK, commonly referred to as laser eye surgery, is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The LASIK surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist who uses a laser to reshape the eye’s cornea in order to improve visual acuity.

PRK (Photorefractive keratectomy), are laser eye surgery procedures intended to correct a person’s vision, reducing dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
