Go Local when hiring a mover!

It does not matter if you are moving across the street, cross country or overseas, you should avoid a broker and work with a local moving company. A local mover will be able to visit your home and get a much more accurate idea of the final cost of your move. Many times you may think you are working with a local company but it turns out to be a broker who misrepresents himself. Using an online move broker can be the start of the worst headache you have ever had.

Always insist on working directly with the moving company. The best way to do this is to have a representative visit your home for an estimate. Even if you are doing a local move that can be scheduled over the phone, do some investigative work. Check them out with the local Better Business Bureau, verify their address and read some on-line reviews.

Brokers do not have a local person who can visit your home or a local office that you can visit. They gather information over the phone and often give you a low ball price. The move broker does not have the responsibility to make sure your estimate is accurate. They are selling your move.
