Saving Money When Moving

Moving and saving money are not normally used in the same sentence. Moving can be a huge financial undertaking no matter how near or far away you move. You may be nervous about how much money you need to put aside for your move, there are actually some ways in which you can save money.

The simplest way to save moving during a move is to pack your own boxes.  You may want to pack the majority of the boxes yourself and allow the movers to pack the items contain the more fragile items.  One thing to keep in mind; when you pack your own boxes the movers do not take any liability for damage to the contents of those boxes that you packed and the insurance does not cover the contents of those boxes.

Another way to save money when moving is to move less. If your move cost is based in weight or time, the less you have the movers move for you, the less it will cost.  Decide what you want to sell or donate it to a charitable organization and follow through. Clear out the clutter. Either way you would be cutting down the time or the weight of your move, get rid of as many unwanted items as you can.

Last but not least, always keep your receipts from the move; depending on your circumstances, you can claim your move as a tax-deductible expense.
