Attention Issues Can Make Back to School Stressful

By now, your children are back in school and fully integrated into the “school routine.” (Of course, sometimes that’s harder for the parents than for the kiddos!)  But for some families, back to school brings the realization of new concerns in a child.  Today, 20% of children - that’s 1 in 5 - are diagnosed with an attention-related developmental problem.  And while medication (usually stimulants) is the gold-standard treatment, many families don’t want to use this option to change their child's behavior, and others have already tried medication without success.
At Connections, we understand that attention problems can have multiple causes.  Maybe a child has a sensory processing issue that is constantly pulling her attention away from what is important.  Maybe a child can pay attention just fine, but he can’t tune out light, sound or movement that happens in the periphery.  Or maybe, a child simply does not have the ability to pay attention!  In a non-drug therapy program like ours, these differences are very important to tease out and can make all the difference in seeing improvement.
We hope you never need us, but if you’re struggling with attention issues in your child this year, please contact us for a free consultation to see if we can help! www.connectionsatc.com

  • ""Before we found Connections, we had tried everything for our son - OT, PT, nutrition, other chiropractors, ST, aquatic therapy . . . we were at our wit's end and ready to resign ourselves to having a son with Asperger's. Dinner time was chaos, he was violent towards me and my daughter, and tantrums were a daily tribulation."

  • "Here is what we have seen in Sarah since June 2012:

Improved balance and coordination – can now walk the entire driveway without holding onto my hand

Greatly improved vision. Sarah could not match anything accurately before – the items were beside, under, “close by” but never matched right on top. Thanks!"

  • "Aley suffered from constant headaches and focus issues for a year after receiving a concussion in her sporting event. After seeing multiple medical professionals the only options presented to us were medications for the headaches and ADHD medication for the attention and focus issues. We were blessed to casually run into Dr. Jackson. After therapy at Connections Aley is now headache free and has no issues with focusing. Her processing and reaction time have also improved greatly!"
