STARTING FRESH IN 2023
If we want this new weight loss journey we are on to be successful, and stay successful, we have to start redefining some terms and think differently than before in our approach to weight loss.
We don’t look at the Genesis Health Solutions weight loss program as a diet, in the traditional sense, that is designed to help you lose weight. We view the word diet in relation to how a person eats habitually as a part of their lifestyle, as in “What types of foods are in your diet?” – not a period of time where food is restricted in order to shed pounds then gain it back when you’re done. At Genesis, you aren’t “on a diet,” but rather you “eat a healthy diet.”
The problem with diet thinking is that, at some point, it is going to stop working for you. You eat low calorie and may lose some initial weight, but you also take muscle with it and decrease your metabolism significantly. Then, when you start eating again, you gain weight quickly because you lowered your metabolism, and the quick weight gain you experience is higher in body fat percentage.
So, each time you diet, your body fat goes up and your metabolism goes down. Eventually, you then find yourself unable to move the needle on the scale at all. So, why is your attempt at weight loss going to be different this time? Because you are going to learn how to eat real food – not starve yourself eating frozen meals or pre-packaged foods. You will learn how to eat to affect and change your body chemistry – meaning your blood sugar and hormones like insulin, leptin, ghrelin and others that dictate hunger and cravings, resulting in weight gain.
Once these things are under control, your cravings will be greatly reduced or stop altogether, and you won’t spend your days struggling with only willpower to overcome your temptations. Of course, you will have to make wise decisions, develop a healthy mindset and be proactive in the process, but we work hard to help provide you with those tools, as well. You will find that you have better energy pretty quickly and, for the majority of you, less medication, better sleep, and decreased inflammation.
You need to decide today (and tell yourself this everyday – put a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, on your refrigerator, in your car, on your work desk or any place that reminds you each day… several times a day) that you will take charge of your health one day at a time and one meal at a time. Stop throwing the baby out with the bath water. Whether you have a bad meal, a bad day, a bad week or even a bad month… so what! That makes you human, not a failure. You will only fail if you choose to do nothing at all.
You know, this isn’t just about weight loss. It’s about your health – and weight loss is a big part of that. Obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, kidney disease, liver disease, etc., are largely attributed to weight gain and eating the wrong foods. So, take charge of your eating and your health while you are still the one in control.
Let’s do this thing! Start by putting the past behind you and starting fresh today. You can’t change yesterday, so there’s no sense dwelling on it, since it will never move you forward; but you can write a new chapter for 2023… starting now!
