IS YOUR THINKING SABOTAGING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS? Part II

Things that are life-changing are rarely easy. Every good thing you’ve accomplished and reaped a personal reward from was met with some type of resistance. Why would we expect eating for a healthy lifestyle to be any different as we tear down a decades-old dynamic in our life to implement a newer, better one.

Resistance can be your friend. Without resistance of water, a ship can’t float; without the resistance of air, a plane can’t fly; without the resistance of gravity, you can’t get up and walk. The bottom line is that adversity is opportunity. You have to see it for what it is and use it to your advantage mentally.

It all starts with how your thinking affects your life negatively in many different ways. And how much you engage in the process of replacing the lies you believe with solid truths about who you really are… about who God says you are (versus who you think you are or see yourself as from a lifetime of negative labels and circumstances) – the sooner it becomes automatic or more natural for you to believe the truth, find healing and overcome old patterns.

Basically, the triggers that we usually see as negative or painful are actually opportunities – like we just said… adversity is opportunity. You just have to choose to see it that way.

Each time you are faced with a challenge and overcome it, you get stronger, until eventually, things are more automatic. The fight tends to ease up and fade.

Of course, you can treat your journey like a quick weight loss plan or diet to implement to get weight off quickly, but you really aren’t going to learn the principles encountered when you have to stick with something over time. That’s where the change comes in.

You have to exercise your adversity muscle in order to succeed in the long haul. You have to start somewhere, believe you can do it, and tell yourself truth when difficulty arises. That’s true in everything. It’s a principle… a principle that will sustain you long after your plan is over. And those who implement this principle in general throughout life, will find their ability to implement it with their weight loss goals much easier.

Remember, you will always act in a manner consistent with your innermost beliefs about yourself. If you believe you are incapable of success with your weight loss, you will do a number of things to make sure you don’t succeed – consciously or unconsciously. But, if you believe you are capable of succeeding (mind you, not being perfect), you will walk, talk and act like it – your beliefs will change and you will eventually reach your goals.

Learning to change your thinking is a journey but, once again, you have to start somewhere. You have the tools – the program, the recipes, the calls, the support systems… but you have to stop telling yourself it’s too hard, too inconvenient, that you don’t have the time, etc., because if you think you can’t, you’re right.

Put some of these truths into action starting today. Don’t walk away and say, “That was good, I should do that,” then not make a plan to implement it. Identify those things you are letting get in your way mentally and emotionally, and begin to change the voices in your head that are dictating your life.

Genesis is a very apt title but it’s also like a rebirth. I’m on my second life which is healthy, happy and pain free. I lost 85 lbs in 4 months, maybe less time. That is about 15 lbs more than my goal. So excited about the rest of my life!
