Dr. Dan Gottlieb is an inventor, author, teacher, Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Distinguished member of the National Academies of Practice, a founding member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, and a specialist in low-vision, vision rehabilitation, and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. He is a board-certified optometrist, and the former president and director of Gottlieb Vision Group in Stone Mountain, which he formed in 1976. He currently directs the Gottlieb Vision Group Center for Specialty Care, and REKINDLE™ Vision.
"Doctor Dan", as he is affectionately known by his clients, has dedicated his life's work to the treatment of children and adults with severe visual problems that cannot be remedied with traditional eyeglasses or contacts. His areas of interest include low vision, vision-related learning disorders, visual disorders brought about through neurological insult such as traumatic brain injury or stroke, and visual field loss, among others. He is a pioneer in the field of neuro-optometric rehabilitation and inventor of the Visual Field Awareness System™, which is employed in his present vision rehabilitation practice, and in similar practices around the world. In his current roles as consultant and case manager, Dr. Gottlieb employs his expertise and many years of experience to ensure that his clients with complicated medical and visual needs receive the best and most complete care possible.
Dr. Gottlieb's passion for restoring vision extends to passing on his innovations to a new generation of physicians. Dr. Gottlieb has taught and mentored students of optometry and ophthamology at public and private schools, published articles and contributed to textbooks, and delivered lectures at conferences around the world. In his years of optometry practice, he has provided internships to a diverse group of talented young doctors.
While his education and background firmly ground him in traditional
western medical practice, Dr. Gottlieb's innovative spirit and
open-mindedness have also drawn his interest to complementary and
alternative therapies. He works with Dr. Shawne Murray, a
board-certified osteopath who also practices integrative medicine, and
he is happy to include complementary and alternative practitioners in
case management upon a client's request.
Dr. Gottlieb is happily married, has two grown children, and enjoys travel, photography, and yoga.
